About Kristin Hopper – author of “President George Washington” website:
The purpose of this website created by Kristin Hopper is to provide a biography of the life of George Washington along with paintings and other illustrations depicting him and his life that can be used by students and teachers for educational purposes. While in high school, Kristin won an award for the best researched and documented history paper for a research paper that she wrote about George Washington which she hopes to eventually have published as a book once she finishes expanding it. Above is a photograph of Kristin Hopper at the overlook at Great Falls National Park. Great Falls played an important role in the life of George Washington as Washington built the Patowmack Canal to make the Potomac River navigable so as to create a water highway across the Appalachian Mountains to the Ohio River, with the largest canal locks being those constructed around Great Falls. Not only was the Patowmack Canal the greatest engineering feat of the 18th century, but George Washington’s efforts to construct it triggered the events that led to the drafting and adoption of the U.S. Constitution.
